Quitting Is Not An Option!
What is it you want to create next in your life? Is it a new job, or a raise, a new or improved relationship, having children, or do you want to get paid for doing your life purpose?
No matter what you want to create, you have a choice: to focus on what you want, or to focus on failure, or on what you’re unhappy with now, which will overpower your positive focus, assuring you’ll fail.
In many areas of your life you do focus on what makes you happy and you do manifest your desires. But for most of us, there’s that one area that is extremely challenging. You know, the one area where you go from enthusiastic to deflated to defeated, and can’t seem to find the energy to get back to enthusiastic again.
And you might believe you have “proof” that this isn’t the lifetime you’ll have the high paying job, or the fantastic relationship or great health. And if you convince yourself you have “proof,” you’ll give up – quit – too soon. The discouragement can be overwhelming at times. And then the ego, in its attempt to protect you, can convince you to quit. We’ve all been there.
But let’s look at the times when giving up – quitting – just isn’t an option.
I can tell you that learning to coach was hard for me. And it was so important. Believe me, I wanted to quit a couple of times. But I knew it was my life’s calling and I kept working with my brilliant teachers until I learned the skills, techniques, and the art of coaching. Thank goodness I didn’t quit.
One of my fabulous clients had almost given up on finding her beloved. After several years of unhappy relationships, her ego had convinced her it wasn’t meant to be. After all, she had years of proof! Fortunately when she started working with me she was able to turn her defeatist attitude into one of joyous anticipation. Then on a business trip, she met her future husband. She’s now happily married and has two adorable children. Quitting would have been a painful option!
I have an amazing brother-in-law who has battled a vicious form of cancer for over 25 years. Quitting is not an option for him. He keeps focusing on what he wants – a happy and long life. He’s getting ready to do his annual fundraising 328-mile bike ride – Pan Ohio Hope Ride – that raises money for the ACS’s Hope Lodges in Ohio. Lying down and not living is not an option!
To bring your desires into reality you need to focus on what you want in your life with an attitude of joyous anticipation. Why? Because it makes you feel good. And when you feel good, you’ll have the energy to keep going after what you want. But if you focus on what you don’t want, you’ll feel badly about yourself and life, thus making it almost impossible to succeed. Choose to step into joyous anticipation! And then create an action plan!
Other than feeling good, what are the advantages of choosing to focus on what you want? It’s more fun and you’ll do better in life. Athletes always perform better when they relax and start having fun. The same is true for you, particularly in those challenging areas of your life.
If you want a loving, joyful, healthy, passionate relationship, focus on the joyous anticipation of being in that relationship and go out in the world and have fun! You will always meet the kind of person you want to spend time with when you’re upbeat. If you go out when you’re down, you’ll attract no one, or a negative person.
The same is true if you want a new job – focus on what you want and have fun with the interview process. You’ll be relaxed, ask great questions and give your best answers.
If you want to figure out what your life purpose is, then you definitely want to explore it from the place of joyous anticipation of doing that every day. Focus on what excites you and what you can talk about for days? What do you love to do that you think no one will pay you for? I’ll bet that Uber founders Travis Kalanick and Garrett Camp were focused on the joyous anticipation when they came up with an idea that ultimately revolutionized an entire industry.
Make a choice, no matter what the Universe seems to be throwing at you, to keep focused on what you want. If you get discouraged, that’s okay. Cry or yell for a few minutes and then refocus back on what you want. Get determined again! If you get really defeated – take a break and watch a feel-good movie, read a magazine, or take a bath and get a good night sleep. Then the next day refocus on what you want and get determined again. Step back into positive anticipation.
The things that don’t come easily to you, the ones you really want, they are worth the frustration, the pain, and the upset. They are worth overcoming the voice in your head that is telling you to quit. Your job is to not give up, no matter what.
Remember, you create your reality. So if there’s something you don’t want, don’t settle, don’t stop, don’t give up. Quitting is not an option! Keep focusing on what you want to create, stay in the energy of joyous anticipation and before you know it, you’ll be living it.
Have Fun and Stay Upbeat!
Imagine the possibilities…
